The Banner Saga fans will be happy to find out that the second installment in the series will reach PlayStation 4 sooner than expected.
The game was supposed to roll out on July 26, but the joint efforts of the developer and publisher will bring the game to Sony's console on July 5.
Xbox One console owners have to muster some patience, as their edition of the game remains fixed for July 26. However, those who own Microsoft's latest console will receive The Banner Saga 2 as a free download, as part of the July Games with Gold promotion.
Versus Evil explained what triggered the changes in the title's schedule.
The publisher notes that thanks to "the effort of our friends at Sony and the hard work by the team at Shiny Shoe," The Banner Saga 2 will roll out sooner than expected.
Stoic was determined to see the title in gamers' hands at the debut of the summer.
The console release comes only three months after The Banner Saga 2 landed on Mac and PC. The publisher further underlines that the porting happened much faster than it did in the case of The Banner Saga 1.
Not only will the PlayStation 4 players get the game earlier than their Xbox One counterparts, but some exclusive goodies are in store. They will get the unique in-game item "Playful Hilt of Arnr," which will be part of the inventory from the get-go. Keep in mind that you have to reach level 10 in order to use it, as it provides +3 to all talent ranks and a beefy +20 percent double strength damage. According to Versus Evil, the hilt makes the sword it equips so comfortable that the warrior's capabilities surge.
Sony also asked the developing team some questions, and Stoic was happy to offer answers.
They explain that even if you did not play The Banner Saga, entering the chilling universe will be easy-peasy. A recap video will provide "a quick low-down of the events" that took place before The Banner Saga 2. Those who do not have any importable characters from the first installment can choose between two default characters.
Players may choose to play the second title in the series without playing the first, but remember that the full story is much more immersive when played from back to end. It is also worth mentioning that PlayStation owners can get The Banner Saga 1 with a 25 percent price cut when The Banner Saga 2 launches.
