Star Squad Is The 'Star Wars' And 'Suicide Squad' Mash-Up You Didn't Know You Wanted

At first glance, Star Wars and Suicide Squad don't appear to have all that much in common: one is about a ragtag band of rebels fighting against an evil Empire in space, while the other is about a band of supervillains teaming up to perform jobs for the government that are too risky for anybody else to tackle.

See? Not all that similar. However, YouTuber The Unusual Suspect has still managed to put together a Star Wars trailer in the tone and style of Suicide Squad, and it's hard to argue with the results.

Unusual Suspect draws footage from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi to craft a video that mimics that of the first Suicide Squad trailer that got fans excited for the upcoming DC Comics film. Instead of the Warner Bros. logo, the Lucasfilm logo is ushered in with Jabba the Hutt's laugh (replacing the Joker's laugh in the original trailer), and from there, fans get to meet the cast of Star Wars in an all new way. Luke and Obi-Wan meet scoundrel Han Solo, and soon, the adventure begins. All of the Suicide Squad's iconic trailer music is included here as well, giving the footage a far different feel from what fans are used to.

If any Star Wars character might fit in well with the Suicide Squad mold, it's Han Solo. The smuggler and renegade isn't exactly a good guy (at least in the beginning). He guns down bounty hunter Greedo in the Mos Eisley cantina without hesitation, and from there, seems more interested in getting his reward for rescuing Princess Leia than he is in anything else.

In fact, perhaps the idea of the rebellion in general is more similar to that in Suicide Squad than it might appear at first glance. Both the Rebels and the Suicide Squad face overwhelming odds and low chances of survival. Many of their missions are "suicide missions." Both groups are composed of ne'er-do-wells fighting against authority (though the Suicide Squad is a little more extreme, in that regard).

The two groups have more in common than you might think. With that in mind, it's almost a little surprising nobody managed to pull off this mash-up sooner. You can check out the full video below.

Suicide Squad is in theaters Aug. 5.
