The new 'Jupiter Ascending' trailer has landed, and it's pretty ridiculous

Mila Kunis hasn't had much luck with movies in the sci-fi/fantasy realm in the past. Neither of her past films in this genre, 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful nor 2010's The Book of Eli, did very well commercially or critically.

But as they say, the third time's a charm. At least that's what Kunis must be banking on with her upcoming film Jupiter Ascending. With Andy and Lana Wachowski, best known for writing and directing the Matrix trilogy, at the helm of this new movie, Kunis may have a good chance of raising her status as a sci-fi star as well.

However, after viewing the new trailer for Jupiter Ascending, which was released today, we're not completely convinced this one's going to be a winner. Jupiter Ascending is a sci-fi Cinderalla story with Kunis being plucked from her life of cleaning houses by a "half-wolf, half-albino warrior," played by Channing Tatum, who tells her she is the heir to an out-of-this-world throne. Unfortunately, Eddie Redmayne's flamboyant villain isn't too keen on Kunis' character taking control of his planet, and the movie basically follows this interplanetary fight for supremacy.

The premise of this flick is kind of cool, but the acting and dialogue are so over-the-top, this two-minute trailer is almost too difficult to watch. I mean, one of the lines Tatum's character says is, "Your majesty, I have more in common with a dog than I have with you," to which Kunis' character responds, "I love dogs. I've always loved dogs," presumably right before they lock lips. Sexy.

The trailer isn't the first or only sign that things may not bode well for Jupiter Ascending. The film has already been pushed back from its July 2014 release date and is now being scheduled to hit theaters in February 2015, with the reason having to do with unfinished special effects. This is also the third trailer released for the movie, and we still have about five months to go before it's released. Warner Bros. is coming off a little desperate in trying to stir up as much excitement for this film as possible.

The Wachowskis have also hit a bit of a rough patch in recent years with their not-so-successful movies Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas. Still, they definitely have a loyal following of fans who will no doubt shell out their cold, hard cash to climb aboard and see Jupiter Ascending when it hits theaters Feb. 6, 2015.
