While previous trailers have embraced Destiny's sense of wonder, a new live-action trailer for the game highlights a different part of the Destiny experience: kicking alien butt with your friends.
The new trailer comes from "Tron Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski, and he wastes no time in turning the trailer into an upbeat romp through space. Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" blares while a fireteam of three friends travels across the solar system, cracking jokes and battling it out with some of the less-than-friendly alien races that populate the game.
Along the way we get a glimpse of some of the special abilities each class will have at their disposal come launch. The Titan smashes an army of creatures with a powerful ground slam, the Hunter delivers a handful of grenades by teleporting and the Warlock force pushes baddies to their doom. We also get a look at some of the fictional versions of real locations throughout out solar system, ranging from the forests of Venus, the deserts of Mars and the abandoned ruins of the Moon.
This live-action trailer is just the latest piece of marketing for a campaign that has been going nearly nonstop since the game's announcement. Yesterday Bungie unveiled "Destiny Planet View," a website that uses the same Google technology used to create Google Maps and Google Street View and applies it to the planets of Destiny. Players who explore all the website has to offer can unlock an exclusive emblem for use in the game.
All the marketing seems to be paying off: Destiny is currently the most pre-ordered new IP in video game history and is poised to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, game of this year.
Destiny releases on Sept. 9 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
