It's a long time coming, but Donald Glover is finally part of a Spider-Man movie. Who will he play in Homecoming?
It's anyone's guess at this point, as Sony and Marvel have not revealed details about his casting, but he's definitely not in the running for the lead role - that's already been filled by the adorable Tom Holland.
Now, some people may argue that Glover instead can fill the shoes of Miles Morales, which he voiced in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, but the actor is simply too old to be the other Spider-Man.
The movie is introducing a younger Peter Parker, who is in the middle of high school, after all, and that means he's going to be surrounded by people more or less his age. Or at least looks like young teenagers. As such, Glover will be more suited to be a father or uncle to Morales, should the character make an appearance.
Other possible roles Glover can take on include: J. Jonah Jameson, Chameleon, Hobgoblin, Prowler, The Jackal, Robbie Robertson, Eddie Brock, Doctor Octopus, a Horizon Labs associate and even an entirely new character made just for him.
Whatever role is given to Glover, however, it would look like the actor's comedic chops will be put to good use, given the kind of humor Spider-Man: Homecoming has chosen to adopt, which is highly evident in Holland's first outing as Spidey in Captain America: Civil War.
Aside from Holland, Glover will be joining Robert Downey, Jr., Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Kenneth Choi, Michael Barbieri, Tony Revolori and Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is set to come to cinemas on July 7, 2017. Before then, Glover can be seen this fall in FX's Atlanta, which the actor created and produced.
In other Spidey news, PlayStation 4 owners can expect a new and improved adventure from the web-slinging superhero for the console. Sony announced the project, which is being developed by Insomniac Games, at its E3 2016 press conference.
According to Ted Price, head of Insomniac Games, the Spider-Man game they are working on will not tie into Spider-Man: Homecoming as they will be featuring an older Peter Parker. From what we have seen in the previous Spider-Man movies, the PS4 game will have Parker facing multiple challenges, which includes balancing his personal life and his responsibility as a superhero to protect New York City.
