Now that Respawn Entertainment has officially announced Titanfall 2, players are beginning to learn more details about the sequel to the Xbox One 2014 shooter.
One of the most important points that Respawn made over the weekend, though, is that the company never plans on charging players for any additional maps or modes for Titanfall 2.
"We'll definitely be supporting Titanfall 2 post-launch, and I can confirm all maps and modes we deliver post-launch will be free," Respawn head of development David Wightman said at an EA Play event. "We'll be talking more about post-launch plans closer to release so stay tuned for more info."
This confirmation comes after the title was officially announced at this year's E3 at EA's press conference.
That conference also revealed some other details about the release of Titanfall 2. Perhaps most interesting is that the sequel to the Xbox One-exclusive Titanfall will arrive on the PC and PlayStation 4 as well. Also, Titanfall 2, unlike its predecessor, will have a single-player mode. Respawn even released a trailer for single-player mode that shows a Vanguard Class Titan protecting its pilot.
"Pilot and Titan unite as never before," the official synopsis for the trailer reads. "Featuring a crafted single player campaign that explores the unique bond between man and machine, players will step on to The Frontier as a Militia rifleman with aspirations of becoming a Pilot. Stranded behind IMC enemy lines, and against overwhelming odds, you must team up with a veteran Vanguard-class Titan and uphold a mission you were never meant to carry out."
As in Titanfall, the second game in the franchise will put players in the role of soldiers who can get inside giant mecha called Titans to fight other players. Titanfall 2 will introduce new classes of Titans, including the Vanguard, as seen in the single-player trailer. Players will also have access to new tactical abilities, including the skill to use a grappling hook.
If content such as maps and modes are free, though, what kind of DLC can players expect for Titanfall 2? Wightman wouldn't say, but he continued to point out that the game would not have "pay to win" items, something that Respawn feels creates unfair gameplay.
Respawn also released a trailer highlighting the game's multiplayer experience, promising more variety and depth than the previous game.
Titanfall 2 lands on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Oct. 28.
