Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A2: Rugged 10.1-Inch Android Tablet With Intel Under The Hood

Panasonic officially launched its newest Toughpad FZ-A2 a few days ago in Barcelona, Spain, during its Panasonic Automotive Innovation Summit.

The new "rugged" Android tablet boasts of a framework that can withstand harsher environments while, at the same time, keep up with the latest performance demand from the latest app technology.

"With its fully rugged durability, flexible business customization options, and top performance, the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A2 tablet is an ideal mobile device for automotive workshop receptions and showrooms," writes Panasonic's press release.

While the summit specifically targeted the locomotive industry, the Toughpad FZ-A2 also meets the challenging demands found in fast-paced hospital and restaurant settings, as well as accompany mobile workers in their fieldwork, among others.

Exterior

The Toughpad's exterior body is completely built from magnesium alloy, allowing the tablet to withstand drop tests of 1.2 meters. Its IP65 ingress protection rating means the device is dust- and water-resistant and its whole frame can tolerate temperatures ranging from -10 to +50 degrees Celsius, or -50 to +122 degrees Fahrenheit.

Its 10.1-inch display supports a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels and can be viewed under direct sunlight with 800cd/m2. Its 10-point capacitive display can detect gestures from both normal and gloved hands as well as its capacitive stylus pen in scenarios that require finer inputs.

The Toughpad FZ-A2's fanless design allows the complete device to weigh only about 880 grams or 31.04 ounces, and remain slim at 16.4 millimeters or 0.65 inch despite its rugged feature.

Its battery life can last for about 9 hours and in cases where the work runs longer than the provided energy, the tablet's battery can be swapped with a freshly charged one.

The Toughpad FZ-A2 also sports a full HD front cam and an 8-megapixel rear camera, equipped with a flash, to handle documentation processes, as well as directional array microphones for video conference calls.

Interior

Behind the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A2's rugged personality is its capable performance parts.

The Toughpad is outfitted with an Intel Atom x5-Z8550 chipset and a 1.44GHz to 2.4GHz Quad Core Processor. The device provides 4 GB of RAM as well, which should be able to handle work-related tasks efficiently and sufficiently.

The tablet holds an internal storage capacity of 32 GB coupled with an expandable microSD slot to allow users more performance times on-the-go rather than occasional syncing and backups.

The Toughpad also runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and is shipped with Android for Work's Enterprise Security.

Additional and upgradable parts suited for enterprise systems like charging bays, barcode scanners, and a smart card reader, to mention a few, make the device capable of handling any setup in a work environment.

Overall

To conclude, the Panasonic Toughpad's specification does live up to its claims to deliver optimal performances in challenging conditions; be it on the hardware or software side, as both parts fully complement each other to meet the demands in fast-paced industries.
