Samsung took the wraps off its new fitness tracker, the Gear Fit 2, on June 3, and a week after the device was launched, it's finally available for preorder.
The Gear Fit 2 was announced alongside the Gear Icon X earbuds, but at the time of launch, the company did not spill the beans on the fitness tracker's price.
However, heading to Samsung's online store in the United States, along with other retailers, now lets one preorder the Gear Fit 2 for $179.99. The company is also throwing in free shipping.
"When you're looking for motivation to stay at your best, the Samsung Gear Fit2 keeps you going. It automatically recognizes whatever you're doing-from walking up a flight of stairs to working out at the gym-and starts monitoring steps, distance and more. Map your run with built-in GPS, receive and respond to notifications from your wrist without breaking stride, and turn up the music that gets you moving. We all have goals. The Samsung Gear Fit2 will help you achieve yours," notes the wearable's description.
Those wondering how long it will take for the Gear Fit 2 to reach them once they preorder the fitness tracker, Samsung gives a time window of 7 to 10 days.
The Gear Fit 2 is the successor of the Gear Fit and, like most next-gen versions, it improves on the first-gen model. The Gear Fit 2 not only boasts a better display compared to its predecessor, but it also has a more ergonomic design.
It sports a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED screen (216 x 432 pixels resolution), which is also curved and full-color. The fitness tracker houses a dual-core Exynos 3250 processor which is clocked at 1GHz and 512 MB of RAM. The wearable touts 4 GB of storage capacity and a 200 mAh battery, which offers usage support for three to four days.
The Tizen OS-powered Gear Fit 2 also supports GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, heart rate monitor, gyroscope, accelerometer and barometer.
The Samsung wearable weighs just 28 to 30 grams and is water-resistant (IP68 certified), which means you need not worry about the Gear Fit 2 getting wet when you're out jogging in the park only to get caught in sudden rain showers.
The fitness tracker records one's progress and activities, such as sleep patterns and calories burnt with ease. When paired with a compatible smartphone, the Gear Fit 2 also brings the alerts from one's handsets to their wrist while they're on the move.
The Gear Fit 2 has three color options: pink, black and blue. It can now be preordered for $179.99 from Samsung, Best Buy, B&H Photo or Amazon. The wearable is slated to hit the shelves on June 10.
