Hayley Atwell IS Peggy Carter, so the actress definitely had a thing or two to say about what her character would think of Steve Rogers hooking up with Sharon Carter, Peggy's niece.
Sharon was first introduced as Agent 13 in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while her relation to the S.H.I.E.L.D. founder was revealed in Captain America: Civil War. Sharon and the Cap certainly did have a connection in The Winter Soldier but it wasn't until Civil War that the two acted on it.
To this, Atwell jokingly said Peggy would be turning in her grave, injecting herself with the blue serum and turning into a supervillain to kick Cap's a--. She'll also be grounding Sharon.
"I just feel that, you know - I wouldn't want to date my great aunt's guy. I just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That's even more disrespectful, right?" she added.
But if Sharon hooked up with any other guy, Peggy would have been protective just the same, Atwell clarified. She'd want the best for her niece, of course, and make sure she's dating a good guy, a criteria that unfortunately Steve Rogers no longer meets.
"So on all levels, it's just a big fat no."
Earlier, Atwell has also been vocal about doing "whatever it takes" to bring Agent Carter back, even if that means pushing for the show's third season on another network. ABC canceled the show in May, alongside shutting down plans for Marvel's Most Wanted.
Agent Carter ended its second season on a cliffhanger and it would have had the opportunity to continue on many different roads had it been renewed. For starters, there's Peggy's past to explore as well as how S.H.I.E.L.D. all began.
Atwell is busy right now with Conviction, another ABC show, but she said that she will make room to play Peggy again if Agent Carter is revived.
