Agent Carter may have been canceled but Hayley Atwell is willing to do "whatever it takes" to keep it going should the show come back.
It may have been easy for many to assume that one of the reasons Peggy Carter isn't coming back is because the actress playing her is busy in other roles, but Atwell signing on to another ABC show Conviction actually doesn't have a lot to do with the cancellation. Rather, Agent Carter simply wasn't pulling in the numbers ABC was looking for, which is a shame considering the kind of fan base it had already developed.
It was actually thanks to these fans that Agent Carter got a second season. The show's first season wasn't a stellar performer in the ratings department but it was through the sheer devotion of fans that Peggy was able to return for a second outing as a badass spy. Unfortunately, ABC was not giving Agent Carter a third chance.
But should it, or any other network be interested in continuing the S.H.I.E.L.D. founder's story, Atwell is more than willing to accommodate filming the show in her current schedule. While in attendance at Florida's MegaCon, the actress said that it is "a privilege and honor" to bring back Peggy to the fans.
This doesn't confirm anything so don't get your hopes up if you're a fan of the show, but there is comfort in knowing that Agent Carter's main star is still invested in her character.
Atwell is set to appear next on Conviction, where she plays Hayes Morrison, a Former First Daughter who has to work for the New York District Attorney's Conviction Integrity Unit to right wrongful convictions in return for not going to jail after being busted for possessing cocaine.
Conviction is set to air on ABC in Fall 2016.
