'Mortal Kombat' Is Getting A Beer Line

If your favorite fighting game character was a drink, what would he or she taste like? Would they be rich and earthy, light and sweet, a mix of both, or something in between?

The verdict is still out on most of them, but the question will soon be answered for a few of the characters from the long-running Mortal Kombat series. Specifically, the essence of Mortal Kombat veterans Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Raiden will be captured and be made drinkable in the form of a trio of Mortal Kombat X-inspired craft beers.

Don't get too worried though, because even if the series is known for the sweat, blood, gore and guts, the only blood and sweat that will be going into this trio of beer belongs to Poulsbo, Washington's Sound Brewery - no gore or guts needed. Furthermore, the brews are quite inspired, consisting of a "Scorpion" Imperial Stout (vanilla bean and chilies), "Sub-Zero" Imperial IPA (the quintessential blend of malt and hops) and "Raiden" Imperial Saison (a Belgian-style ale).

Here's the full lineup and description of the Mortal Kombat-branded beers, which are being distributed by Global Beverage Traders, according to a press release:

Sub-Zero Imperial IPA: Refreshingly cooling on a warm day, an Imperial India Pale Ale that's not all about the hops or the malt but is a whole lot of both fighting it out for your palate's supremacy. Drink icy for more of the hops or warmer for more malt.

Raiden Imperial Saison: This amped-up Imperial Saison has a blast of hops and CO2 that will hit your tongue with a bang. The aroma jumps out of the glass with its earthly and herbal notes not far behind.

Scorpion Imperial Stout: A unique blend for great Imperial Stout brings both fire and ice into your glass. The fiery southwest chilies and cooling Madagascar vanilla bean pair nicely with the exotic notes produced by our own yeast strain.

Mortal Kombat is just the latest franchise to get bottled down into a drinkable form. When Fallout 4 launched last year, Bethesda teamed up with Carlsberg to produce Fallout Beer. In a similar vein, in commemoration of Call of Duty: Black Ops III's launch, three Australians teamed up to produce a CoD-themed line of beer called Black Hops.

In the meantime, it's interesting that Bo' Rai Cho, the character known for being a bit of an alcoholic in the series, doesn't have a beer modeled after him. Unfortunately, its unlikely he ever will since the beer will only be available for a limited run.

The beers will be available later this year and ship in 22-ounce bottles.
