‘Deadpool’s’ T.J. Miller To Join Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’

Ready Player One is coming along nicely, most recently signing on T.J. Miller to round up its cast.

Last seen in Deadpool, Miller will be playing the role of i-R0k, an online troll in the forums for OASIS, a virtual reality the movie's lead character Wade Watts thrives in. He will be joining Tye Sheridan, who plays Watts; Olivia Cooke as Art3mis; Mark Rylance as James Halliday; and Ben Mendelsohn as the villain Nolan Sorento.

Miller also voiced Fred in Big Hero 6 and Tuffnut Thorston in How to Train Your Dragon, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Dragons: Riders of Berk, and appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction as Lucas Flannery and Silicon Valley as Erlich Bachman. Silicon Valley is now on its third season, in which Miller's Bachman is part of the main cast.

Based on a sci-fi novel by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One is set in 2044, where real life is something that everyone wants to escape. To do that, they turn to OASIS, a virtual reality made by James Halliday. When Halliday dies, all OASIS users embark on what could be considered a real-life Easter egg hunt. Watts is lucky enough to be one of the players to discover one of the three keys that can unlock the egg, but his discovery unfortunately paints a target on his back.

Why such a big deal over a game? Because not only will the winner gain ownership of OASIS but will also be bagging Halliday's fortunes in real life.

Plans for Ready Player One have been in place since last year but an official release date was not announced immediately because Steven Spielberg, who will be directing the movie, was still working on The BFG at the time. A December 2017 release date had been finally revealed, but it had to be moved to March 2018 to steer clear of Star Wars: Episode VIII, which has been set to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.

Aside from being Ready Player One's director, Spielberg is also on board as producer, alongside Dan Farah, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Donald De Line.
