Steven Spielberg pushed back the theatrical release of his adaptation of Ernest Cline's Science Fiction novel, "Ready Player One" to March 2018 after "Star Wars: Episode VIII" came close to it and now the multi-awarded director has another news about his film: "Ready Player One" finally has a lead!
That's right! After months of searching, Spielberg's epic adaptation has finally found its lead actor in Tye Sheridan. That's three major characters in the bag now with Olivia Cooke who was cast to play Samantha Evelyn Cook with the avatar "Art3mis" way back in Sept. 2015, and Ben Mendelsson who will play as the villainous Nolan Sorrento — after final negotiations, that is.
Sheridan will be taking on the role of Wade Watts whose OASIS avatar, "Parzival," finds one out of the three keys that OASIS creator James Donovan Halliday left as part of a huge treasure hunt in which the winner will inherit the ownership of the virtual world. Of course, everyone wants in on the hunt because whoever wins automatically becomes the world's richest and most powerful person.
If you're wondering who Tye Sheridan is, you are not alone. Sheridan has been around since 2011 when he debuted in the film "The Tree of Life" and has been in several films since then. He played the lead in the 2015 horror comedy, "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" which did not do to well in the box office with a worldwide earning of only $14.8 million against its budget of $15 million.
However, Sheridan's latest role should be able to make up for the lack of attention from the public eye since he was casted as the young Cyclops in "X-Men: Apocalypse," which is slated for release on May 27.
"Ready Player One" is scheduled to begin filming in spring so we should be able to find out who the rest of the cast are soon.
