Activision has a cool new scheme for its Skylanders game series, handing content creating to players with Skylanders Imaginators.
For the first time, players will be able to create their own heroes, which should make the widely popular game series even more fascinating. Activision has been stirring a lot of hype with its Skylanders toys and character designs, but the new move will spark players' imagination and let kids have a say in the hero creating process.
"Use the power of your imagination to create Imaginator Skylanders to battle in the ultimate adventure alongside the almighty Senseis to save Skylands," reads the description on the official Skylanders website.
Those "Senseis" are new character toys, and Skylanders Imaginators will feature 31 of them.
Previous iterations such as Skylanders Trap Team, Skylanders Superchargers and Skylanders Swap Force added various new toys, vehicles or characters with swappable parts, but Skylanders Imaginators is a huge new feature bound to make some serious waves.
The creation process is pretty straightforward: Skylanders Imaginators will offer a full character creation system, allowing players to choose from various gameplay and cosmetic options to create their own Skylanders. Players will be able to save their heroes to Creation Crystals, which is a new kind of toy for the game. Creation Crystals will basically function as memory cards, holding the player-created Imaginators.
Players will be able to select any battle class and combination of elements to create their Skylanders Imaginators, which means they control how each custom character works. The possibilities for customization are numerous, including different skins, body parts, shapes and more, so kids will have to put their imagination to work.
While many options are just cosmetic, some items such as backpacks or weapons can in fact change the stats of the Skylanders Imaginators.
Interested customers can choose between Standard and Dark Theme starter packs, which include the video game, two Senseis, one Imaginite Creation Crystal, one Collection Poster and one Sticker Sheet. The standard starter packs costs $74.99, while the Dark Edition goes up to $99.99. Additional Creation Crystals will cost $9.99 each and extra Senseis will cost $14.99 each.
The new Skylanders Imaginators will land on Oct. 16 in North America for the Nintendo Wii U, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. In the meantime, check out the trailer video below to get a better idea of the concept.
