Fear the Walking Dead is not The Walking Dead but the two are so similar it's difficult for many fans to reconcile where one starts and ends. Dave Erickson, executive producer for Fear the Walking Dead, understands this creates confusion and so has taken the time to expound on timelines for the two shows.
According to him, marking off the days that have so far passed on air since Fear the Walking Dead came out will bring you close to the point that Rick Grimes woke up in Georgia in The Walking Dead. It's just the middle of the second season for Fear the Walking Dead, however, so a converging point should be more evident as the season comes to a close.
"Only now have Fear TWD's survivors arrived at a place where they're up to speed on how one deals with the apocalypse and the dead," he added, which, in short, means no one is a beginner at this point.
But while Fear the Walking Dead is closely approaching where it all begins in The Walking Dead, it doesn't mean that the shows' characters will start showing similarities. A mid-season break can't change Fear the Walking Dead characters so dramatically to the point that they can go to the same extremes that The Walking Dead's characters are comfortable with. Take Madison, for instance. She did leave Celia to die in the fire during the mid-season finale but that doesn't mean that her character's baseline will be inherently violent when the second season picks up.
Fear the Walking Dead is on hiatus at the moment, leaving off with the group's safe haven gone. With the survivor's on the run, it's anyone's guess where the show will pick up when it returns on Aug. 21. It's a long wait but fans will just have to soldier on like the rest of Fear the Walking Dead's characters.
