Faith Connors is about to jump away from the city of Glass and into television.
Deadline reports that an adaptation of the Mirror's Edge video game franchise could soon arrive on television. Endemol Shine Studios recently acquired the rights to the female-starring action adventure story with plans to bring it to the small screen.
Mirror's Edge is a sci-fi action adventure title set in a futuristic world where underground organizations use people like Faith, a runner, to get messages to and from each other to avoid government surveillance. Most of the action takes place in the city of Glass, a large metropolis ruled by a group of corporations. After getting accused of her sister's murder, Faith becomes part of a group wanting to take those corporations down.
"We clearly see Mirror's Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience," Endemol President Sharon Hall said. "It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing."
This news comes just before the release of the second game in the franchise, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which is a sort of reboot of the first game. Catalyst will delve more into Faith's background and explore how she became a runner for the group that wants to save society from corporate rule.
When the first Mirror's Edge game was released, players and critics praised it for its unique take on parkour, becoming one of the first titles to tackle that style of gameplay from a first-person point of view. Catalyst will build on that, although Faith won't start the new game with the same set of skills as the first one: instead, she will have to gain abilities through upgrades.
Although this move might upset some gamers, many who played the first title remember how difficult it was to initially learn all those moves at the beginning of the game, which required playing through a lengthy tutorial (sometimes several times).
Mirror's Edge Catalyst releases on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on June 7.
