The stakes have never been higher on The CW's Arrow.
As the final episode approaches, Damien Darhk's plan to blow up Star City is now more real, and it's already looking like Team Arrow might have trouble stopping him.
Darhk has this crazy plan to destroy the city so that he can remake it. Basically, this is the same plan Malcolm Merlyn had in the show's first season, when he created an earthquake machine that would have destroyed the city so that it could rebuild itself. This is, obviously, the go-to supervillain plan on Arrow.
In a new promo for this week's season finale episode, Team Arrow races against time to stop Darhk before everything the group knows and loves gets destroyed. This is after they've already suffered some pretty heavy losses this season, including Black Canary, whom Darhk killed several episodes ago.
It is likely that Darhk will finally die in the season finale, leaving many fans breathing a collective sigh of relief: most would agree that he just wasn't that great of a villain to begin with (not to mention that the weird spelling of his name is just annoying). Stephen Amell, who portrays Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, on the series, recently teased a new bad guy arriving in Star City in season five.
"I've heard that our big bad, our villain, is something that you can really only do once you're in the fifth, sixth or seventh season of a TV show," Amell said to Variety.
Who will that bad guy be? Amell didn't give out any details, but he did let it slip that it's someone without superpowers. Here's hoping that the villain has a better plan for dastardly deeds than Merlyn or Darhk.
One thing is certain, though: Arrow will team up with a new superhero next season, at least for one episode. With Supergirl arriving on The CW next season, the network plans on doing a major crossover event with all four of its DC-related TV shows. That will make a superhero team worthy of comic books that will feature the characters from DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash.
The Arrow season finale airs on The CW on May 25 at 8 p.m. EDT.
