In a press event before this year's Tokyo Game Show, Masahiro Kashino from Dimps Corporation confirmed that Dragon Ball Xenoverse will let players create custom characters and interact with Dragon Ball greats like Vegeta and Goku.
Customization is nothing new but always a great addition to any game. Aside from letting players choose costumes, weights, heads, and races for their characters, they may also choose genders, making it possible to see for the first time a female Super Saiyan in action. Depending on the kind of character created, different skills and abilities are possible. For example, a female Majin will be distinct from a Namekian or Saiyan.
"I'd like the Dragon Ball fans' dreams to come true in this game. In Japan, all the children are practicing the kamehameha in their bedrooms ... all of them! In this game, your dreams come true; you can make your own character and do the kamehameha," explained Kashino during the presentation.
Aside from granting every fan's wish to create their own Super Saiyan, Dragon Ball Xenoverse brings another surprise to the table by manipulating major events in Dragon Ball dramatically.
For instance, that scene where Goku sacrifices himself just to kill Raditz? Goku dies but Raditz survives, dodging the Beam Cannon from Piccolo.
The manipulation in the story isn't just for kicks, though. It's essential to the game. Because if it weren't for the manipulated events, a player's character wouldn't be summoned to travel through time and save history.
Many fans may scoff at the manipulation of events, despite the years and years that the original story has been exhausted, but Dragon Ball Xenoverse may attract them just the same because of the promise that events may be corrected.
To those who feel that even thinking about changing a bit of the story is sacrilegious, don't worry. The manipulation of events, including how history is to be saved, has been approved by Akira Toriyama.
Four characters will also be introduced in the game: Towa, Mira, Toki Toki, and The Kai of Time. Towa and Mira will be the ones responsible for destroying history while Toki Toki and the Supreme Kai of Time will be the ones working to restore things as they were with the help of the player.
No definite release date yet for Dragon Ball Xenoverse but it is scheduled to come out early next year. It will be available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows via Steam.
