The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Moto G4 Plus are among the biggest smartphones launched this year. Here is a quick specs shootout to see which one of the two handsets is better.
Screen
Both the Moto G4 Plus and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 boast a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. The pixel density of both the handsets is just a little more than 400 ppi.
Processor, RAM And Storage
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor powers the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. The smartphone is available in two variants: the first with 16 GB of on-board storage and 2 GB of RAM, and the second with 32 GB of internal storage capacity and 3 GB of RAM. Customers who think that it has a low storage capacity should not be disappointed because it can be expanded to additional 32 GB with a microSD card.
The Moto G4 Plus has a slower Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC. Just like the Redmi Note 3, the Motorola offering is also available in two versions: one with 16 GB / 32 GB of storage and of 2 GB of RAM or 64 GB internal storage with 3 GB / 4 GB of RAM. It also allows storage expansion up to 128 GB with a microSD card.
Camera
Both the Redmi Note 3 and the Moto G4 Plus tout a 16-megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 aperture. Their cameras have phase detection, autofocus and dual LED flash.
The Redmi Note 3 has a 5-megapixel (f/2.0 lens) front-facing camera. On the other hand, the Motorola phablet has a 5-megapixel (f/2.2 lens) selfie camera.
"Redmi Note 3 takes just 0.1s to focus thanks to Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), a focusing technology commonly found in DSLRs. Fast like the blink of eye, it precisely calculates the distance the lens has to move and is far more sophisticated than typical contrast focus which uses trial and error," says Xiaomi.
Battery
The Moto G4 Plus has a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery, while the Xiaomi device has a bigger 4,000 mAh non-removable battery. The batteries of both the handsets support fast charging.
Operating System
The Motorola phone runs on Google's latest mobile operating system - Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
However, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop straight out of the box. Redmi Note 3 owners will want Marshmallow software update as soon as possible.
Fingerprint Scanner
Fingerprint scanners are normally found in top-end devices. The Moto G4 Plus and Redmi Note 3 are mid-segment phones, but both have fingerprint sensors.
Form Factor
The Xiaomi offering measures 150 x 76 x 8.7 millimeters, (5.91 x 2.99 x 0.34 inch), which is slightly thinner that the Moto G4 Plus that measures 153 x 76.6 x 9.8 millimeters, (6.02 x 3.02 x 0.39 inch).
Weighing 155 g (about 5.47 ounces) the Moto G4 Plus is lighter than the Redmi Note 3, which weighs 164 g (5.78 ounces).
SIM
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has dual-SIM card slots, but the Motorola phone can accommodate only one SIM card.
Both the phablets have notable specs; however, the Moto G4 Plus has an edge over the Xiaomi device when it comes to the operating system and microSD card expansion capacity.
Some customers prefer their phones to run for longer, in between charges. Such customers may opt for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, which has a bigger battery than the Moto G4 Plus.
