Com1 Android Wear smart watch asks for funding on Indiegogo

The Com1 smart watch is not like the well-known smart watches from LG and Samsung, which are mostly made of plastic. This new breed of wearables comes in either aluminum or stainless steel. Moreover, it is powered by Android Wear and runs on Google's OS, which only proves that the Android Wear platform does not solely cater to big hardware manufacturers.

The Com1 smart watch is the brainchild of a group on Indiegogo that is currently raising funds that would help them launch the product. So far, the group had already raised more than $28,000 which is 38% of the desired goal of $75,000. There are 17 days left for everyone to pre-order for the watch and help the group to launch their project.

If the project becomes successful, the Com1 smart watch could offer a very attractive value to all smart watch enthusiasts. Interestingly, the new wearable has specs that resemble an Android Wear wishlist.

The Com1 smart watch features a 1.6 inch AMOLED screen display that is built with a 320 by 320 resolution, 1.67 million colors, LED back light, 300 cd/m^2 brightness and touchscreen support. Connectivity features would include Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n at 2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR (BLE Compliant), NFC and FM. Other hardware spec features are CPU of 1GHz XBurst-based Ingenic JZ4775; memory of 256KB L2 cache RAM, 512 MB LPDDR1 and 4GB eMMC; DMIC and speaker for the audio; dedicated 2D graphics engine and VPU for multimedia; and USB and 400 mAH Battery for power. Battery life is said to last up to approximately 2 days.

Users can choose to have their Com1 smart watch in either the stainless steel model or the aircraft grade aluminum 6061. The latter will come in colors of either space silver or anodized slate grey. The watch, which will have the dimension features of 37 by 40 by 10mm will have a finish build of fine bead blasted and will be sporting a black rubber watch strap. The stainless steel iteration will have the same dimension and watch strap features but will be sporting a lightly brushed finish.

Since the new wearable from Com1 has Android Wear support, interaction comes easily with its wide range of apps. These would include WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Evernote. Other apps that come pre-loaded are Calendar, Google Keep, Path Talk, Pinterest, IFTTT, Hangouts (SMS/MMS), Fitness, Maps and Music.

Apart from being able to measure temperature, humidity and pressure, the Com1 smart watch is also equipped with a 3-axis gyroscope, heart rate sensor, GPS, pedometer, magnetometer and accelerometer.

The early bird price is set at $125. The Com1 smart watch, which also bears the IP67 waterproof certification of up to 1m, is set to hit the shelves in December. By then, it will retail at $175.
