Nearly a year after Snapchat revamped its Discover section, the service is looking to give a facelift to the page again.
The news of the social media app working on changes for the Discover tab comes courtesy of VentureBeat, which cites a source familiar with the matter.
According to the site's sources, Snapchat is allegedly poised to debut the new look for the Discover page in June. Moreover, the important partners for the social media app, whose content is on the Discover tab, have already been given a peek into the revamped avatar.
"Snapchat is redesigning its Discover page, the coveted spot where media giants flock to reach Snapchat's young users, a source familiar with the matter told VentureBeat. The new look may arrive on June 7," said the site.
What To Expect?
The publication's source has also let slip that the redesigned Discover tab will tout a completely new layout. The page will ditch the all-too-familiar circular icons for another popular design - tiles - which will be similar to that of popular photo-sharing app Instagram. The new design will enable users to scroll through tiles of ads and news.
The previous revamp to the Snapchat app was in March, when it launched the Auto-Advance Stories and novel messaging features. The Auto-Advance Stories alters the manner in which a user views stories on the app. Before that update, users would pick a particular story they want to watch, but now they can see all stories in a single continuous stream.
Giving the Discover page feed a facelift seems propelled by how Snapchat has been pushing for more video views from users, fighting off rival Facebook and YouTube in the process. The service's users reportedly watch 10 billion videos in a day, compared to the 8 billion videos a day by Facebook users.
Opting for a tile-based feed like Instagram could potentially enable brands to stand out from the crowd on the social media app. This would in turn help the brand to generate more views or eyeballs, which will be instrumental in augmenting Snapchat's ad revenue.
Whether Snapchat launches the revamped Discover page on June 7 as alleged remains to be seen. For now, the rumor should be taken with a pinch of salt.
