New images of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A5 have leaked and confirm it will not have a metal frame like the recently announced Galaxy Alpha. The report also sheds light on the Galaxy A 5's specs.
There was a time when the look and details of mobile devices remained a mystery until the company launching the devices officially unveiled them. As smartphones have become more popular in recent years, so have leaked images and details appearing online. Apple was the master of keeping a tight lid on its unannounced devices and then in 2010 the company and the world watched the iPhone 4 appear online months before its official unveiling. The public has gotten a look at each iPhone model since and an employee from Foxconn, Apple's iPhone manufacturing partner has confirmed that one of its employees has been detained by Chinese police for stealing shells of Apple's just released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Images of the aluminum shells have been appearing online, months ahead of the smartphone's release.
Samsung is the latest smartphone maker to see another of its unannounced smartphones leak online in high-quality images and some details on the handset's specs.
SamMobile has posted images of the Samsung Galaxy A5 (SM-A500F) and the site claims that the device will be part of a new series of smartphones from the company. The Galaxy A series will reportedly consist of three models and judging from the naming convention in the latest leak, it's possible the official names of the two other models will be Galaxy A3 (SM-A300) and Galaxy A7 (SM-A700).
Multiple reports claimed the Galaxy A series would follow Samsung's recently announced Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 and use a premium metal frame in the smartphone's build but have mid-range specs to keep the cost of the device low. According the SamMobile's source, that's not the case. The Galaxy A5 isn't made out of plastic or metal, but "a material that feel's cold in the hand."
The Samsung Galaxy A5 will feature a 5-inch 720p HD Super AMOLED display and run Android 4.4+ KitKat and TouchWiz UI. The smartphone will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, ship with 16 GB of internal storage and include a microSD expansion slot to expand its memory.
The Galaxy A5 will use a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies. The smartphone will include a 2,330 mAh removable battery.
Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy A series in the coming weeks and we'll be sure to keep you posted.
