Facebook users need to be vigilant right now as scammers are using the launch of the iPhone 6 to their own advantage, and to the dismay of those who are completely unaware of what is truly going on around them.
Scammers on the social network are not few and between, they are plentiful, and tend to target users who are too overly in love with free things. The latest campaign by scammers is to make it known to Facebook users that they could get themselves a free iPhone 6. It might sound too good to be true, which is correct, but that is not enough to stop some people from going all in.
According to officials from Better Business Bureau, scammers are assaulting the news feed of Facebook users, telling them they could win a free iPhone 6 device, but only if they fill out a simple survey. What makes this scam interesting is the fact that it appears as if it is coming from a person's Facebook friend list.
Chances are, a friend must have clicked on the link, and it automatically gets sent to everyone on his list of friends. The more this particular link is clicked, the more the people the scam is shared with.
On some occasions, the scammer would hack into the account of a friend, and use it to spread the scam.
"What we see on this one especially and other Facebook scams, is basically when your friend recommends it, and that's the way they hack into your friend's account or someone else's account, and make it look like it came from Sue, but Sue had nothing to do with it," Chicago BBB president and CEO Steve Bernas said.
This is where we'd like to tell everyone to make sure they have a strong password that is not easily hacked. Bear in mind that when on the Internet, one must always take extra precaution because nothing is safe, and as of now, not even the best security measures are enough to keep hackers and scammers at bay.
The new iPhone 6 scam is quite elaborate, but it will not be the last. As we've stated above, be vigilant when on the Internet, because not everything is what they seem.
