Verizon is rolling a software update to the original Motorola Droid Turbo, but it is not Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The Motorola Droid Turbo is a Verizon exclusive smartphone, which was announced and released in October 2014. At launch, the mobile phone came running on Android 4.4 KitKat, but it has received Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
According to Motorola's website, the Droid Turbo is expected to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, but neither Verizon nor Motorola have confirmed the date for the software release.
While Motorola Droid Turbo owners are waiting for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Verizon has rolled out a minor update for the device.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device [Motorola Droid Turbo]. This software update has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches," says Verizon.
The carrier suggests that the update improves call performance and brings latest security patch for the existing Android operating system.
Motorola Droid Turbo owners should get a notification on their phone, but they can also check Setting > About Phone to see if they have received the update.
Verizon notes that customers should connect their device to a strong Wi-Fi network to ensure seamless download and installation process. The carrier also suggests that the battery of the Motorola Droid Turbo should be fully charged before starting the update.
It is worth noting that although a security patch does not bring any new features to the table, it is always good practice to download the latest security patch to protect a mobile phone from new threats and vulnerabilities.
Even though the Motorola Droid Turbo is over 18 months old, it still sports impressive features that can attract customers looking for a mid-ranged phone. The smartphone sports a 5.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz and 3 GB of RAM powers the Droid Turbo. The mobile phone has 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage, and a powerful 3,900 mAh battery fuels the handset. According to Verizon, the large battery offers up to 48 hours of talk time and up to 28 days of stand-by time on its network. The battery also supports fast charging and wireless charging.
Verizon is selling the Motorola Droid Turbo for $480 outright or for $0 down followed by 24 equal installments of $20 per month.
