Hyundai is working on an Iron Man suit that doesn't need an arc reactor to keep the lights on, targeting commercialization.
Before anyone gets too excited, it doesn't have a pair of boot jets or repulsors, so it won't really come in handy when Mandarin is on the loose again or when the Crimson Dynamo is wreaking havoc. However, it's probably the next best thing in case that does happen, but more importantly, it can help folks do their jobs more efficiently or move around better.
According to the South Korean carmaker, it can assist the elderly to become more mobile and give them the extra support to let them stand longer. What's more, it can help people with paraplegia to walk.
On top of that, the wearable robot is designed to assist factory workers and whatnot to boost productivity and decrease the risk of injuries, giving them more lifting power to boot.
Weighing in at about 110 pounds, it won't be too cumbersome to use, not to mention that it's said to give the wearer the capability of traveling long distances quickly.
Hyundai showcased the dark blue exoskeleton robot in a blog post, revealing that it's indeed far from how Tony Stark's ensemble look like, but it did include a couple of photos of Iron Man, so it probably took several cues from the Marvel suit here and there.
As for the release date, the company didn't give out any solid details, and the suit in the pictures is actually just a prototype at this point. At any rate, its intended range of uses is more than impressive.
It's also worth mentioning that the U.S. Army has been developing a bulletproof, weaponized Iron Man suit called TALOS as well, and needless to say, it's starkly different from what Hyundai is building.
At the end of the day, the question is, could this project considerably take us closer to the future filled with consumer Iron Man suits? Feel free to pay a visit in the comments section below and let us know what you think.
