Eating a small amount of nuts everyday can help you witness more iPhone launches than you can expect to if you don't eat nuts, according to a recent research.
The researchers of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the Harvard School of Public Health, claim that consuming 1 ounce of nuts (any nuts) on a regular basis reduces the risk of dying from cancer and heart-related diseases.
The research study was conducted on neary 119,000 people. Each of them were given one ounce of nuts everyday. It did not matter whether the nuts were raw, roasted or salted. In the 30 years of study, researchers noticed that those who ate nuts lived 20 percent longer than those who didn't.
"The findings from our study and others suggest a potential benefit of nut consumption for promoting health and longevity," said senior author of the report, Dr. Charles Fuchs, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, in a press release.
In the study, the specific causes of death were also studied upon. Those who ate an ounce of nuts every day were 29 percent less likely to die of heart-related diseases. They were also 11 percent less likely to die from cancer.
"In all these analyses, the more nuts people ate, the less likely they were to die over the 30-year follow-up period," explained Ying Bao, MD, ScD, of Brigham and Women's Hospital, first author of the report.
Researchers could not determine any one reason why nuts boost health but nuts are a rich source of protein and are known to contain adequate amount of vitamins, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants in them. In short, everything for the development of a healthy body.
Ten years ago, Food and Drug Administration also suggested to have a fistful of nuts every day as part of a low-fat diet. This helped in reducing the risk of heart diseases at larger extent.
The study has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
