Google amps up Photos with a slew of new features, making it more social and putting it in direct competition with Facebook Moments.
Straight off the bat, the app will now offer smart suggestions, recommending images to the user it thinks should be part of a certain album based on time and location.
That means it'll be a whole deal easier to add more photos to a shared album of a past event because there would be no need to scroll down and search through an avalanche of images. In other words, relevant shots will be neatly laid out and ready to be included in the mix at a tap of a button.
To keep the good times rolling, users can now comment on photos and albums they're a part of. Needless to say, that update is what makes Google Photos all the more social now.
"[P]eople who join the album can add comments to photos and the album itself ... Plus, to make it easier to add your own photos to a received shared album, you'll now see smart suggestions for the right photos to add," Google says.
In contrast to Moments, it doesn't have a Like button or an equivalent of the expressive function. What's more, it doesn't use facial recognition, but it's worth pointing out that the feature isn't available in the European and Canadian versions of Facebook's app either.
Availability-wise, these new functions are hitting the Android, iOS and Web platforms, and the update is already up at the Play Store and App Store.
