World of Warcraft is getting the movie treatment this summer thanks to the Duncan Jones-directed Warcraft, and no doubt more than a few players of the wildly popular MMORPG will be heading to the theaters to see orcs and humans fight on the big screen.
Players will also get to bring a little bit of the Warcraft movie into the game as well. As detailed by Wowhead, it looks like a few of the film's iconic weapons will be added to World of Warcraft's upcoming Legion expansion as transmog items. This will allow players to change the look of their gear to that of these film-based weapons, without actually changing the stats of their equipped items.
A human sword and shield called Lion's Fang and Lion's Heart, a horde axe called Blood Guard's Cleaver and the menacing Replica Staff of Gul'dan all look to be coming free of charge to players who log into World of Warcraft within two months of the Warcraft movie's international release date of June 10. Each item is linked to an achievement for logging in during the time period, one for both the Alliance and the Horde.
It's a nice gesture by Blizzard, as former and current World of Warcraft players are sure to make up a large part of Warcraft's audience. The movie looks to be a labor of love for Duncan Jones, who has helped to ensure that many of the film's locations and characters are faithful to that of the video game.
Keep in mind that the free transmog items aren't official just yet. Wowhead merely keeps track of all the changes and updates that are added to Legion's playable alpha build and is simply detailing some of the latest additions. That being said, it seems fairly certain that these transmog items will become reality when the expansion does arrive on Aug. 30.
