IT security company SektionEins GmbH released a new iOS app that will let the user know if cybercriminals have compromised their Apple device.
Hacking has been rampant lately, so it was only a matter of time before someone brought a simple but effective solution for consumers everywhere.
Dubbed System and Security Info, the app can tell the user whether the iOS software running on their iPhone or iPad is authentic or not in easy-to-understand terms. For the record, green means everything is A-OK.
On top of that, it can detect anomalies when they turn up in the system, confirming conditions such as "Debugger not attached," "No application with manipulated CS flags found" and "No non Apple daemon found," to name a few.
According to German security researcher Stefan Esser, he mainly developed the app to provide users with a way to easily check whether or not the iPhone or iPad they own are jailbroken, and at this point, it's worth mentioning that Apple devices are vulnerable to malware when they're jailbroken.
"[Hacking companies] usually require [their clients] to only use jailbroken phones ... whoever is trying to spy on someone needs to get physical access to the device, jailbreak it, and then they can run the spying tools from HackingTeam or FinFisher," he tells Gizmodo.
The thing is, it's no easy task to spot active malware programs, but they're surprisingly easy to remove. All the user has to do is to revert the device back from jailbroken status, and to do that is simple: do a factory reset or download an iOS update.
Needless to say, with the jailbreak out of the picture and the iPhone or iPad up to code, the malware is no longer an issue.
To boil things down, System and Security Info will help users make sure that everything's in tip-top shape and free of any issue. For those who want to grab the app, it's available at the App Store for only $0.99.
