Netflix is launching the Ultimate Beastmaster as the first ever global competition series, involving 108 competitors from six participating countries that include the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, South Korea, and Japan.
The series will have a total of 10 episodes, with each episode lasting for one hour. In the first nine episodes of the series, 12 competitors, two from each country, will outwit each other in an obstacle course called "The Beast," with one champion, the "Beastmaster," to be declared in the end. These nine champions will then compete against each other in the tenth and final episode for the chance to become the Ultimate Beastmaster.
"Ultimate Beastmaster is the first international competition series of its kind with six customized local versions featuring local languages, competitors and hosts from each competing country," says Netflix in a press release.
The series will have Dave Broome (Strong, The Biggest Loser) and Sylvester Stallone (Grudge Match, Creed) as executive producers. Ultimate Beastmaster will be produced by 25/7 Productions and Dave Broome for Netflix.
Stallone also hinted at what viewers can expect to see in the obstacle course where all the excitement will be happening.
"Let me tell you about this thing. It's 600 feet long, 2 football fields. Imagine I can barely walk that far. And 80 feet high, that's 8 stories. Think about 8 stories high, standing up there, looking up on 'What am I doing here,'" says Stallone.
Throughout the competition, there will be local celebrity hosts and popular athletes who will provide the commentary in a localized version. These include United States' Terry Crews (The Ridiculous Six, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Charissa Thompson (Fox Sports, Extra TV); Mexico's Ines Sainz (TV Host, Sportscaster and Journalist) and Luis Ernesto Franco (Actor and Producer); Brazil's Anderson Silva (UFC Middleweight Champion) and Rafinha Bastos (Journalist, Comedian and TV Personality); Germany's Luke Mockridge (Comedian) and Hans Sarpei (TV Personality and Former Soccer Player); South Korea's Park Kyeong Rim (Actress, TV Host and Comedian) and Seo Kyung Suk (Actor, TV Host and Comedian); and Japan's Yuji Kondo (Sports Anchor) and Sayaka Akimoto (Actress).
Erik Barmack, Vice President at International Originals, said that Netflix members, wherever they may be located, will truly enjoy the series which shall feature great competitors and well-loved commentators in several episodes using multiple languages.
"With Sylvester Stallone and Dave Broome at the helm, it's going to be outrageously fun," says Barmack.
