Motorola Moto X (2016) Confirmed To Have Metal Body: Could Metal Case Design Options Be Heading To Moto Maker?

We caught our first glimpse at Motorola's next-generation Moto X (2016) last December, which showed off a metal design. Now, a reliable source has confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will rock a metal body.

Motorola has watched a few of its upcoming smartphones leak over the last couple of weeks. We got our first look at what is believed to be the Moto G4 Plus, which confirmed the handset would sport a fingerprint scanner. Then what are reportedly images of the Moto G4 hit the web and provided a closer look at its display, square fingerprint scanner, and rear camera.

Press renders of the Moto G4 were posted online and showed the handset in a white color option and they came courtesy of the reliable Evan Blass, who has a great track record of revealing devices ahead of companies.

The tipster is back and this time he's confirming a report we posted last December that was supposedly the Motorola Moto X (2016). What was notable about the image was that the smartphone featured a metal case, just like all top tier handsets. "Who woulda thunk it? Turns out this is 100% real. #moto x," tweeted Blass, along with the same image from December 2015.

Motorola is reportedly planning on officially naming its 2016 flagship smartphone the Moto X4 and a few days ago, the handset made an appearance on Geekbench, revealing some of its key specs.

The results showed the smartphone was packing similar specs as that of the current flagship Android smartphones, which all use the same Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and Quad HD displays – the same internals found in devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5, and HTC 10.

It's unclear if Motorola is planning on adding metal options to its Moto Maker customization service, which was the highlight of the original Moto X released in 2013 and has remained an option with each successor. It's one of the best ways for consumers to design the smartphone to match their own personal style and it even offers materials like Bamboo as an option for a rear case.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any new Moto X4 news as it becomes available.
