Motorola has announced that its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Moto X Pure Edition is now available. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and U.S. Cellular customers can obtain the upgrade via an OTA (over the air) software update.
Many Android smartphone manufacturers are currently planning to or are in the midst of rolling out their Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to their latest devices. LG recently released the software update for its flagship G4 smartphone in Europe, and the company is reportedly planning to launch the update for U.S. G4 owners in the near future.
HTC just announced that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the HTC One M9 in the U.S. is still on target to be released this month, and its recently-launched HTC One A9 is set to get its first Marshmallow update in the form of Android 6.0.1 in the same timeframe, according to HTC's VP of Product Management, Mo Versi.
Meanwhile, Samsung has already released an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy Note 4 in Hungary, and recently-leaked images show the company's progress on the Galaxy S6's Marshmallow update.
Now, Motorola has joined the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update fray for the Moto X Pure Edition. Motorola's senior director of software product management, David Schuster, posted the news to his Google+ page.
"I have some news with respect to our Android Marshmallow 6.0 upgrades. This afternoon we have started to fully roll out Android Marshmallow 6.0 on 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen) with the following carriers; Verizon, Sprint and USC."
He later updated the post to announce that the update is also available for the AT&T Moto X Pure Edition.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings several new features to Android, including "Doze Mode," which monitors your smartphone and puts it in a deep sleep when the device isn't being used, which can extend battery life considerably. "Now on Tap" takes Google Now to the next level by displaying pertinent information based on whatever you're doing. "Android Pay" is Google's answer to Apple Pay and works in a similar manner, making smartphone purchases a one-tap affair.
