Evernote For Android Gets Cool New Update With Scan And Annotate Features

Popular note-taking app Evernote for Android just got a notable update, adding a smarter camera, cool annotation options and more.

Following the major update that recently rolled out to Evernote for Windows, the Android version of the app is now getting some treats of its own. The new features aim to improve the overall experience and deliver a simpler and smarter way to organize notes and digitize documents, so here's what you get.

Smarter Camera

The latest Evernote for Android now features a revamped camera, promising to make it easier than ever to capture quality shots. As soon as you hit the camera option when adding a new note, it will display a notification that it's now the "smartest camera yet."

The in-app camera now has two capturing modes to keep things simple: a default automatic mode or, if you prefer, a manual mode. When capturing a photo of a document in the default automatic mode, the Evernote camera will detect the type and size of the document so it can properly calibrate it to deliver the best image possible. The app will automatically process and crop the image as well as adjust the contrast so that it's as crisp as it can be.

"You don't need to do anything else-just point the camera and let the app do all the work. Get your update and give it a try," touts Evernote.

The app will temporarily keep all your scanned images in a gallery so you can manage them more easily. Deleting scans is easy as well — just swipe upward on an image and it's gone.

Evernote also allows users to manually select which format they want to use for saving the scans they want to keep.

Annotations

"Next to smarter scanning, annotation in Evernote was the most requested feature we heard from you-and now it's here," adds Evernote.

With the updated app, users can now annotate images directly within the app. Options include adding arrows, shapes, test, stamps and more. You can even make areas pixelated if you want to censor something in a photo. Premium users, meanwhile, get an extra cherry on top: the option to annotate PDF documents attached to notes.

Other Improvements

Evernote also added a bunch of other improvements in its latest Android app, including note editor enhancements, support for new formatting styles such as subscript or strikethrough and some neat new organization features. Last but not least, users can now empty the "Trash" can straight within the app.

The updated Evernote for Android is available for download on Google Play, so try it out and let us know what you think of it.
