Apocalypse Could Have Looked Like This In The New X-Men Movie

When the final movie look for Apocalypse was revealed, more than a few fans felt dismayed. Oscar Isaac's version of the character instantly became a joke. More than a few fans compared Apocalypse's look in X-Men: Apocalypse to that of Ivan Oooze from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie.

It wasn't a compliment. Now, a video from Tested (via Reddit) has revealed an alternate vision of what Apocalypse could have looked like on the big screen, and it is glorious.

The alternate look for Apocalypse comes from Ironhead Studios, a design studio that has crafted the costumes for films like Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War, Tron: Legacy, X-Men: Apocalypse and more. Ironhead Studios founder Jose Fernandez talks at length about the origin of his company and how his studio doesn't often get proper credit for the work it puts into blockbuster superhero films.

At around the 10-minute mark in the video below comes Fernandez's take on Apocalypse. Despite Ironhead making the costumes for the rest of the film, the job to design Apocalypse's movie look ultimately went to another studio. When he saw the final images of the character, he, like many fans, was underwhelmed. So, he proceeded to do a sculpt of what his version of Apocalypse would have looked like using a life cast of Oscar Isaac around which to sculpt.

"I thought maybe it's not possible to make him look like this character, but that is sculpted on Oscar Isaac, so I'm like, well, no, it was possible," Fernandez says.

The results speak for themselves. The Ironhead Studios version of Apocalypse is much more faithful to the comic book version of the character, and looks both powerful and intimidating. Additionally, Fernandez's version was just a rough draft.

"I sculpted the makeup and then I kind of bashed out the armor fairly quickly, but just an impression of what that character I think could be, could have been," he says.

It's sad that his version of Apocalypse won't make it to the big screen, but at least we can still dream about what could have been.

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters on May 27.
