Learn More About Apocalypse's Origin In New 'X-Men' Video

Want to know more about the villainous Apocalypse character from X-Men: Apocalypse?

Learn everything you need to know in a new featurette video released by 20th Century Fox. The video not only gives details about Apocalypse's origin story in the movie, but also teases how he'll relate to the other characters in the film.

The film's origin story calls Apocalypse the first mutant, who is thousands of years old. This pretty much goes in line with the comic book character's origin, which had him at around 5,000 years old. Most scholars believe that he was the first human born with the mutant X gene.

In the movie, Apocalypse isn't just the person responsible for civilization as we know it, but also believes that he is a god who has managed immortality by jumping from one mutant body to another, which gives him power over death, as well as all the powers of the mutants that he inhabits. He has collected these powers over thousands of years, basically making him unstoppable.

In the movie, Apocalypse wakes up in the 1980s, and what he sees makes him believe that civilization has declined and that he should destroy it. So, he takes it upon himself to free the world of non-Mutants so that the Mutants can rise and take over the planet.

"He's kind of more the God of the Old Testament, the vengeful God who wants the world in a certain order and wants to be worshipped — but he's also forgiving," said director Bryan Singer to IGN. "He's also a false god, which makes him kind of like a cult leader. So [Apocalypse actor Oscar Isaac] and [writer/producer Simon Kinberg] not only studied religion but also studied the nature of cults and how they function. And that helped inform us how he chooses his Four Horsemen."

Most importantly, though, X-Men: Apocalypse brings together the team comic book fans now know as the X-Men.

"This movie is ultimately not just about the defense of the world itself, but it's also about the formation of the X-Men," said director Bryan Singer to IGN. "We've never really seen that. In X-Men: First Class, there's a group that forms for the CIA, and most of them are killed. Here, we get to see a reluctant Professor Xavier actually be given motivation to form a group that will ultimately become the X-Men. We see the birth of that in this movie."

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.
