Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo could be reuniting on the small screen, but not as the misadventureous couple, Clark and Ellen Griswold, they played in the classic “Vacation” movie franchise.
ABC Studios is moving forward with an untitled comedy that will star Chase and D’Angelo, again as a married couple. News of this show emerged early in 2014, but that was when the two actors and producer Aaron Kaplan were just in the early stages of development with no network attached to the project.
Now, with ABC on board, and with Brad Copeland ("Arrested Development," "My Name Is Earl") attached to write and serve as one of the show’s executive producers, the show is moving forward
The show’s plot centers on the couple, “whose golden years are interrupted after circumstances beyond their control are now forced to raise their grandchildren,” explains The Hollywood Reporter. “It's based on an original idea by ‘Vacation’ fan Kaplan, who exec produces the single-camera comedy via his Kapital Entertainment shingle.”
“Vacation” fans will be thrilled to see the two actors back together if the show is actually realized. Chase and D’Angelo are also reprising their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold in an upcoming “Vacation” reboot staring Ed Helms as the couple’s grown-up son Rusty.
Christina Applegate plays Rusty’s wife in the film that has Rusty taking his family on a road trip like the one he experienced as a boy. Creative differences have delayed production, but this “Vacation” reboot will reportedly start shooting soon.
The 2015-2016 TV season was the original goal for ABC’s untitled comedy with Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. But it’s unclear if the project is still on track to meet that timetable.
