Hatsune Miku is making her North and South American debut much sooner than expected. Originally rumored to release in Fall 2016, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X is scheduled for release on August 30. It will be available on the PS4 and PS Vita systems.
The rhythm game produced by Sega Games features over 300 modules, costumes, and 30 songs comprising old favorites and new hits. Pre-orders include a pouch decorated with the symbols of five auras, a feature to the new cloud gameplay.
A central hub to the gameplay is the home system where Miku and the other Volcaloids will rest between performances and interact with players, with narrative cut scenes shedding new light on the story behind Project Diva X. The home system also functions as the main menu and allows players to select different game modes.
"Cloud Requests" make up a new game mode where players will guide Miku and company through five different cloud arenas to face unique challenges in each. The clouds come in cute, cool, elegant, quirky, and classic modes. Players will be challenged to select the right strategy and customize their modules and accessories to complete each cloud. Additionally, players will have the option to use the free play mode, which is the traditional Miku Project Diva gameplay.
By completing the cloud challenges, players will earn "voltage," which is used to unlock new songs, costumes, accessories, and modules. Additionally, unlike previous Project Diva games, modules will unlock at random by well-rated performances, instead of being purchased in the game store.
Another exciting feature is the Concert Editor mode. This mode will allow players to create custom concerts for Miku and her friends using unlocked modules, costumes, accessories, songs, and stages. A free update later this year will also allow PlayStation VR owners to enter Hatsune Miku's world and enjoy the custom concerts as an audience member. PlayStation VR is an add-on to the PS4 system, operating similarly to other VR headsets like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Samsung Gear VR. The PlayStation VR is scheduled to release during the third quarter of 2016. There will be a free update to Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X that will enable PlayStation VR support.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X is available for pre-order from Amazon and other retailers for $49.99 USD ($64.99 CAD) on PS4 and $39.99 USD ($54.99 CAD) on PS Vita.
