Sony has announced that the preorders for the PlayStation VR will start soon. The company has also confirmed the content of the PlayStation VR package.
Several virtual reality headsets are expected to hit the market in 2016, and the PlayStation VR is one of them. The VR headmount has been developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, and the company finally gives us a hint as to when we'll finally experience its version of virtual reality.
Andrew House, president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, reveals in a blog that the company will launch the PlayStation VR headset in October at a suggested retail price of USD $399 or CAD $549.
"That is a bit later than the timeframe we previously stated, and I want to thank everyone for their patience and continued support. PlayStation VR represents a transformative experience in gaming, and we wanted to take the time needed to launch with a broad variety of content and a sufficient supply of hardware. We are beyond excited to deliver to consumers the amazing experience that PS VR offers," says House.
Sony also confirmed via a tweet that customers will be able to preorder PS VR soon.
While we can hardly wait and can't imagine what Sony means when it says "soon," it's a good idea to take a closer look at what VR buffs who preorder are going to get. Included in the PlayStation VR package are the PS VR headset, processor unit, stereo earbuds, HDMI cable, USB cable, AC adaptor and power cord, headset connection adaptor and documentation.
Too bad the Sony PlayStation 4 Camera, which is required for the PS VR to function, will be sold separately. The same is true for the optional PlayStation Move controller.
Many customers would have wanted Sony to bundle the PS VR with the PS4 Camera, which has a suggested retail price of $60 but can be purchased for less during deals. However, it is worth nothing that many existing PS4 owners may already own the camera.
Sony is expecting that about 50 VR games will be available at the launch of the PS VR. The Japanese company also says gamers will be able to play regular PS4 games and videos in virtual cinema with the PS VR. If that doesn't satisfy you, Sony will also update PS4 Media Player to support 360-degree photos and videos.
