Although gamers might worry about adopting early VR technology, such as the Oculus Rift that releases this month, game development companies assure players that they will have a choice of 30 games to choose from for that particular headset.
Not only that, but developers will announce more titles for the headset later this spring, as well as in the summer, when Oculus releases its Touch controllers.
The first 30 Oculus Rift games will offer variety to early virtual reality adopters, including first-person experiences, tower defense titles and strategy games. Because Oculus developed its headset in the public eye and made itself available to developers — and many gamers — early on, the company has an idea of what kinds of titles VR gamers want.
Here's the full list of games available for the Oculus Rift upon launch on March 28:
- ADR1FT
- Adventure Time: Magic Man's Head Game
- AirMech: Command
- Albino Lullaby

Another question VR gamers might have, though, is "how much will these games cost?" Depending on the experience, players can expect to pay anywhere from $9.99 to $59.99 for these titles. Considering that most PC and console games retail around $59.99 to begin with, at least the cost of games isn't as prohibitive as the cost of the VR tech, as well as the cost of putting together a high-end PC that can handle the tech.
If you want to get your hands on an Oculus Rift, you're out of luck: pre-sales sold out quickly. However, the $599 headset should become available again later this summer. Meanwhile, there's also the $799 HTC Vive, which arrives in April, followed by the $399.99 PlayStation VR, which will get a release this fall.
Although all three headsets offer similar experiences, so far, only the Oculus Rift has received such a large game library at launch.
