The last week has been filled with Call of Duty rumors and teases, some of them official and some of them not so official (maybe). This latest tease is of the official variety, as it looks like Black Ops III is teasing the next entry in the franchise.
Players of the popular Nuketown 24/7 map in Black Ops III will notice a few new additions upon finishing a match today. A previously never-before-seen spacecraft now appears in the sky above the map, as previously unseen logos flash across the screen for a split second. You can watch a video of the tease below.
Curiouser and curiouser. All signs point toward it being a tease for the next Call of Duty, which is rumored to be set mostly in space and reportedly called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The spaceship in Black Ops III certainly seems to confirm the "space" aspect of the sequel, though Activision has yet to officially reveal the title of the game or what it will be about.
It's not the first time an in-game teaser has been used to foreshadow the announcement of the next Call of Duty. They did much the same by posting a teaser image for Black Ops III in Black Ops II.
Rumor has it that the next Call of Duty offering will officially be announced before May 3, but if that's the case, Activision sure is taking its sweet time. If it doesn't hurry up, there might not be much left to announce, as details on Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered are already all over the Web. Perhaps that's intentional and is part of Activision's marketing strategy, but it seems ultimately pointless to continue dragging out this whole reveal. Just get it over with. Announce the name of the game, show a campaign trailer and let us move on with our lives.
Shooter fans certainly have plenty to look forward to in the next week. Aside from the likely announcement of Infinite Warfare, EA will also be unveiling what is believed to be Battlefield 5. You can read more about that here.
