Five-year old Ashya King, who suffers from brain cancer, is reportedly "destroyed" after being compelled to spend four nights away from his parents.
Ashya's parents Brett and Naghemeh were taken into police custody in Spain after they removed the little boy who was undergoing radiotherapy for brain tumor from Southampton General Hospital in August sans permission from doctors. The parents were arrested in Malaga when checking into a hotel for allegedly neglecting the child. Brett and Naghemeh King were looking for alternate treatment for their ailing son as they had objection to conventional radiotherapy, which can lead to the damaging of surrounding tissues.
However, public backlash in the UK led to the couple being reunited with Ashya. Nevertheless, the incident has affected 5-year old Ashya.
Ashya's grandmother Patricia reveals that the separation from his family has "destroyed" Ashya whilst he was kept at a hospital in Spain. What's more, Ashya's five siblings were also not allowed to visit him either.
"I think Ashya being left alone for so long has destroyed his character. My son is very worried about him. He is a really scared little boy now. He was never like that before. He can't speak or communicate with anyone to tell them how he feels," divulged 77-year old Patricia.
Patricia reveals that Ashya is upset by the incident and cries all the time, something which he never used to before.
The parents have been advised to sue University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation and Hampshire Police for defamation, wrongful arrest and incorrect imprisonment. The family has not ruled out the possibility of legal action against the authorities, but did not commit to the same.
Ashya is currently at a specialist clinic in Prague awaiting proton beam therapy treatment. He was flown in on Monday, Sept. 8, to the Czech Republic from Spain.
