Following the success of releasing the Serial podcast on its platform last fall, Pandora announced on Tuesday another related podcast is joining its lineup: This American Life.
New episodes of the popular podcast hosted by Ira Glass will be released every Monday, and will be available to listen to on the Pandora app for iOS, Android, tablets and on the Web.
From the creators of Serial, This American Life is a weekly podcast that features a new theme every week. The podcast presents these stories in a journalistic way, while still feeling like a movie, and they are usually full of drama, emotion and surprising twists.
This American Life went national in 1996, and has gone on to win quite a few awards, such as the Peabody and the Edward R. Murrow Award. When new episodes air, the series is commonly the most popular podcast in the U.S., with approximately one million weekly downloads.
For those who haven't listen to the series before, Pandora has set up an introduction to the podcast in the This American Life station. The station features a variety of episodes that serve as a starting off point. Chances are, you will become obsessed like the rest of America soon.
The launch of This American Life marks the second podcast added to the platform. The music streaming service previously added the Internet radio show Serial back in November 2015, and it was a huge hit.
"Pandora listeners loved Serial, to the tune of over 15.6 million streams of season one and season two," Chris Phillips, Pandora chief product officer, said in a press release. "There's a huge appetite for a wider range of entertainment and deeper listening experience, and we can't wait to introduce our listeners to the compelling storytelling in This American Life."
It only makes sense that This American Life would also be added to cater to the tastes of those who couldn't get enough of Serial.
"Putting Serial on Pandora was an experiment, because we really didn't know if their listeners wanted to tune into hour-long stories. As it turns out ... millions of them did," Ira Glass, executive producer of Serial and host of This American Life, said. "We hope and believe that the same thing will be true for This American Life, and Pandora will turn their listeners into fans. Because, you know, we like it when people listen."
The podcast is perfect to listen to while commuting to and from work or school, while cooking, browsing the Internet or even while curling up on the couch to relax.
