Want To Play Classic Nintendo Games With A PS4 Controller? Here's How

The maker of the handcrafted, premium re-creation of the original Nintendo Entertainment System Analogue outs a new wireless adapter that lets gamers everywhere connect any Bluetooth-enabled gamepad to the NES, notably the Wii U or PS4 controller.

In partnership with the company that builds retro game accessories 8Bitdo, the duo developed the Bluetooth dongle called Retro Receiver.

Compatibility-wise, it works well with the aforementioned remade console from Analogue and other aftermarket systems — aside from the original NES, that is. Needless to say, it can be used with all 8Bitdo controllers and arcade sticks, but on top of that, it can also hook up with a PS3 gamepad or a Wii Remote.

What's more, it can be plugged into PS and Wii consoles, PC and Mac to boot, making it one heck of a versatile adapter.

Now for the downside of things, it doesn't seem to be compatible with the Xbox One controller, Xbox One Elite and Steam controller. Still, the support it has for other gamepads is pretty impressive.

It should also be mentioned that NES games doesn't really need all the buttons that a current-gen controller sports — a directional pad, A, B, Start and Select buttons are already right up the old-school games' alley. That leaves the question of what those additional buttons on a modern controller are for, and to answer that, they'll be mapped as turbo buttons. That's just downright nifty.

As for the cost, the Retro Receiver will hold customers back by $19.99, and it's available via Play Asia. Personally, having the option to use virtually any controller across a lot of platforms for that price is a steal.

Long story short, this is essentially another take to bring the age of NES back up with the times, and it's an awesome one at that.
