Two robust, feature-rich Android flagship handsets - the LG G5 and the HTC 10 - are vying for consumers' attention as rivalry in the smartphone space heats up.
We take a look at the features and specs of the two smartphones to help you decide, which of the two flagships is a better buy.
Display
The 5.2-inch Quad HD display of the HTC 10 is fractionally smaller than the 5.3-inch Quad HD screen on its rival, LG G5. Both the Android handsets have a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. However, when it comes to pixel density, the HTC flagship pips the LG smartphone with 564 ppi vis-à-vis 554 ppi.
Processor
The U.S. variant of the HTC 10 will house a Snapdragon 820 processor, which puts it on an even keel with the LG G5 as it too is powered by Qualcomm's processor.
Both the handsets boast 4 GB of RAM.
Dimensions
The HTC 10 measures 5.74 x 2.83 x 0.12 - 0.35 inches, whereas the LG G5 has dimensions of 5.88 x 2.91 x 0.30 inches. Therefore, the LG offering is fractionally taller and wider than the HTC flagship. However, the LG G5 is thinner than the HTC 10.
Weight-wise, at 161 grams, the HTC 10 is heavier than the LG G5 which weighs 159 grams.
Storage
The LG G5 offers 32 GB of on-board storage. The HTC 10 will also come in 32 GB option. Both the smartphones offer expandable memory support of up to 2TB, thanks to a microSD card.
Camera
The HTC 10 has a 12-megapixel primary camera, which pales in front of the 16-megapixel rear-facing snapper on the LG G5. Moreover, the LG smartphone also has an additional 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter.
The front-facing camera on the HTC 10 - 5-megapixel - is also no match for the 8-megapixel selfie camera on the LG G5.
However, a feature that might make people lean toward the HTC smartphone is the fact that it has a voice selfie option. This feature is not available in the LG G5.
Battery
The LG G5 houses a 2,800 mAh battery, which is small in front of the 3,000 mAh battery that fuels the HTC 10. However, while the LG offering packs in a removable battery, the HTC 10 has a non-removable one.
Both the smartphones boas the Quick Charge Technology - Quick Charge 3.0 - which ensures that the handset charges faster. However, the HTC 10 gets charged 50 percent in 30 minutes, whereas the LG G5 gets boosted to 83 percent in the same time span.
The battery support offered by the HTC smartphone is longer when compared to the LG G5 (27 hours of talk time on 3G vs. 20 hours).
Operating System
Both the HTC 10 and the LG G5 come with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box.
Price
While the global launch of the LG G5 was March 31, it hit the U.S. shelves a day later on April 1. The smartphone is available in four hues: silver, titan, gold and pink. The unlocked version of the smartphone will set you back anywhere from $600 to $700 depending on the carrier or retailer you opt for.
The preorders for the HTC 10 began on April 12 and the smartphone will hit the shelves in early May. The handset will come in Carbon Gray and Glacier Silver and the unlocked version will cost $699.
Both the HTC 10 and the LG G5 are on even keel when it comes to power and viability. Those who are keen on the camera, however, may find the LG G5 a better option. On the other hand, if you are looking for a smartphone that can offer a longer talk time support, then the HTC 10 is your go-to device.
