In a toss up between the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5, which of the two would have the best camera?
That's right. Admit it. On the spot, we'd probably all call it in favor of Samsung's flagship.
It never really was a fair fight, however. Samsung made something good (the Galaxy S6 camera) into something even better on the S7.
LG, on the other hand, decided to tread a new path for itself to focus on an entirely new form factor for smartphones. We imagine LG didn't put as much focus in the G5's camera considering all the extra modular parts the "other" Korean smartphone manufacturer had to produce along with it.
But don't take our word for it. A blind camera test conducted by the pixel peeping eyes of Phone Arena and its readers reveal that it is indeed Samsung's Galaxy S7 that outperforms LG's G5.
The specs between both devices, however, might paint a different picture. For example, the G5 packs in a 16-megapixel sensor, while the Galaxy S7 is stuck with a 12-megapixel sensor.
Though both are equipped with optical image stabilization onboard those sensors, the S7 does allow for more light to reach the sensor at f/1.7 compared to the G5's f/1.8. In addition to the S7's benefit, Samsung also jammed in larger 1.4um pixels.
As a result, Samsung's Galaxy S7 beat LG's G5 in five of the six scenes used in Phone Arena's blind camera test. The S7, in fact, collected a majority of the votes, with 19,870 people marking the S7's images superior to those from the G5.
In the first sample scene of furniture, for example, the S7's sensor output a greater range of brighter, more colorful objects. Exactly 3,801 people voted in favor of the S7's photo, whereas only 1,105 people voted in favor of the G5's.
It was only in the very last scene where the people voted the G5's photo more than the S7's. With a set of toys in the dark, the G5's sensor pumped out a more natural photo while the S7's image seems to be covered in a tinge of purple.
Head over to Phone Arena to see all photos.
The next blind camera test we're to see very soon will involve the HTC 10. Between those three handsets – the Galaxy S7, the LG G5, and the HTC 10 – which camera would end up on top?
