Have you ever been creeped out by old photographs--deteriorated glimpses into the past that seem somehow off? If the answer is yes, then you're about to really get shivers.
Artist Kevin Weir takes black and white photographs from the Library of Congress archive and changes them into moving vignettes of an off-kilter reality. Towering monsters that could be from a Guillermo del Toro film or a transforming woman that may be a Lovecraftian witch are just some of the subjects that he adds to the photos.
The Art blog Colossal is showing off some of Weir's animated work. He tells them that "my parents' boss bought me a copy of Photoshop and I decided I wanted to be some kind of designer." Years later he found himself "making black and white GIFs as a way to occupy myself during the downtime of an internship I had during grad school."
Beyond his unusual photo manipulations, Weir is an art director for the Droga5 agency.
One example of his photo work is below. You can find more of his animated GIFs at Flux Machine, Weir's Tumblr page.
