Mafia III is set to welcome gamers to developer Hangar 13's version of late sixties New Orleans this fall. It'll launch on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Oct. 7.
Along with revealing the game's release date, publisher 2K also opened it up for advance orders and details the various editions of Mafia III will come in this fall.
Beyond the typical $60 price tag for the standard edition of the game, Mafia III will also get a deluxe edition that'll cost $80. The Deluxe Edition of the game comes with the season pass and other post release content, which hasn't been given a dollar value just yet.
The Collector's Edition, priced at $150, will include all of the content the Deluxe Edition will offer. But it'll also include vinyl copy of the game's score, art books, prints and other content
Regardless of the edition early pledges go with, 2K is throwing in the Family Kick-Back package for preorders. The DLC comes with "three exclusive lieutenant-themed vehicle and weapon gifts available to players at launch," 2K says.
To make the memory of the upcoming launch day stick, 2K and Hangar 13 released a new trailer filled with violence and speckled with bits of story. The trailer adds a little more protein to previous samples of what Hangar 13 has shown off, fleshing out the back story of the game's protagonist in a 2 minute chunk.
Back from Vietnam, protagonist Lincoln Clay has watched his surrogate family, the black mob, fall into ruin at the hands of the Italian Mafia.
"Lincoln builds a new family from the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible," says 2K. "Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white-knuckle driving, hard choices and street smarts will all be required to survive the mean streets of New Bordeaux."
New Bordeaux, Hangar 13's take on New Orleans, offers a compelling backdrop for the studio's "hard-boiled story of crime, betrayal, loyalty and revenge," says Haden Blackman, studio head and creative director at Hangar 13.
"Mafia III introduces a true open world, rich with its own criminal ecosystems to the franchise, while still upholding the strong narrative storytelling and immersive setting that the previous Mafia games are known for," said Blackman.
