On June 29, 2007, Apple released the first generation iPhone to a world of tech-hungry consumers. The original version exceeded expectations by being an all-in-one tech miracle that people could use to play music, browse the Internet and even make the occasional phone call on. It was one of the crowning achievements of Steve Jobs’ career.
Despite the hefty $500 or $600 price tag (depending on which version you bought), the first iPhone was a smash hit with users. Apple knows its customers better than anyone, so it should have come as no surprise when the company began rolling out newer and better versions of the iPhone almost every year afterwards.
While many of these updated models were slight improvements from previous designs, others completely broke the mold and added features that would soon become staples of Apple products. Whether we’re talking about screen size, device size, processing power, Internet capabilities, connectivity or any of the other countless bells and whistles, the iPhone has always been at the forefront of the latest in personal tech.
Later today, at 1:00 p.m. EST, Apple is going to unveil the iPhone 6, which will feature a considerable redesign from the previous model, the iPhone 5. While there is nothing but speculation at this point, the iPhone 6 will likely be another landmark for the company. So we thought it was appropriate on the morning of the big unveiling to look back at how the iPhone has changed over the years. Let's see how far Apple has taken the "It” gadget of our age with the evolution of the iPhone.
