Apple will hold a press event on Sept. 9 to unveil the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6. Let's take a look at what we can expect to hear in terms of details, price and release date.
Rumors about the two new iPhone 6 smartphones Apple is expected to launch have been leaking over the last few months. We've seen the 4.7-inch model appear alongside the current 4-inch flagship iPhone 5s and images also gave us an idea of how the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 phablet would compare with its smaller 4.7-inch sibling. The most recent leak provided an up close and personal look at what is believed to be a fully assembled iPhone 6.
The iPhone 6 will be offered with a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display and redesigned aluminum case with a relocated side power button to make one-handed use easier. The smartphones are expected to be powered by a next-generation 64-bit A8 processor and include NFC (near-field communication), which will reportedly support Apple's new iPhone mobile payment system that will allow iPhone 6 users to make purchases with the smartphone instead of a credit card. The handsets will ship with iOS 8 out of the box.
Some rumors claim that Apple will add a larger 128-GB internal storage option in addition to its usual 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models. Apple is also expected to upgrade the iPhone 6's camera, with some reports claiming it will use a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) and rounded True Tone dual-LED flash.
Since both iPhone 6 models have larger displays, Apple is reportedly going to use a battery larger than the 1,560 mAh found in the iPhone 5s. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is expected to pack a 1,810 mAh battery and the 5.5-inch model will use a large 2,915 mAh battery.
There have been reports that Apple will begin selling the iPhone 6 on Sept. 19. Some reports claim the 5.5-inch model could be in short supply or launch at a later date due to manufacturing issues. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is expected to be priced starting at $199 (with 2-year contract) and the 5.5-inch model is expected to debut at $299 (with 2-year contract).
