Instagram For iOS And Android Overhauls Explore Section With New Video Channels

Instagram has announced a new feature in the explore section, which will include video channels.

Video streaming is getting popular in the tech industry and people want to see more than just text and images. Fast and easy Internet access on PCs and mobile devices is a factor that has helped many video streaming apps to reach more people.

Facebook-owned Instagram has also overhauled its explore section with a slew of video channels that could attract many users.

Facebook acquired the photo- and video-sharing service in 2013 and since then Instagram has been improving the way people watch video on the app. In March, Instagram announced about increasing the maximum video duration from 15 seconds to 60 seconds.

"We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you'll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you'll see this year," said Instagram.

On April 14, Instagram announced that its iOS and Android apps will now make it easier for users to discover new videos. Instagram users will find a personalized channel called "Videos You Might Like" that collects video clips from Instagram's global community. Scrolling through the explore section, users will see "Featured" channels that are full of videos on particular topics.

"Even with these changes, Explore still works the same way: It connects you to posts about your interests from people you don't yet follow. The more you like, the better Explore gets, adjusting to your preferences and showing you more of the stuff you enjoy. And if you see something you don't like, tap 'See Fewer Posts Like This' in the '...' menu to make your Explore experience even better," says Instagram.

The Instagram app is available as a free download from Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The iOS version of the app weighs just a little more than 27 MB and users should have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running on iOS 7.0 or later. The app supports a number of languages such as English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and more.

According to the Google Play Store, the size of the app and its Android version compatibility varies from device to device.

Instagram has more than 400 million monthly active users and the company hopes that the user base will increase with the latest update to the explore section.
